Behold - long overdue - the team style and livery overhaul

Around two months ago, we began working on a new Scorpio eSports style, and the journey has been anything but easy. The target was to meet all of these criteria at the same time: preserve the original Scorpio colours, make the car unique and instantly recognisable (which is no easy task given how many teams run combinations of white, blue and red), while also making it modern, distinctive and stylish.

Our PR team developed over 20 different concepts, and after carefully narrowing them down, it was decided to develop this one - a combination of watercolour and geometric shapes (polygons) that truly makes it unique, exactly as required. From there, the work continued with the creation of fully custom shapes for both the watercolour elements and the polygons. Every one of them was drawn from scratch, so don’t bother looking for them online.

Then our in-house designer, Ryan Stringer, took over, carefully bringing it all together on the car, working with its shape and form while, at the same time, ensuring that every logo remained clear and readable against such a complex and varied background.

After more than two weeks of work, the red accents were added, and we then decided that the plain black areas should instead become carbon fibre.

That presented an entirely new challenge, because in iRacing, unlike in GT7, you can’t simply put a sticker on. But Ryan bravely accepted the challenge. He drew it pretty much from scratch, and if you look closely, you may be surprised by just how realistic the carbon looks, because it is hand-drawn from three different layers, carefully constructed to simulate the carbon fibres: matte, glossy, and something in between, just as they appear in real life.

While many carbon-simulated liveries on iRacing can look rather plain, largely because carbon images are often applied as a single-layer sticker, ours has become one of the most realistic-looking designs - and, wow, does it come alive in the sunshine.

The amount of late-night calls required to bring this project to completion is uncountable, but ultimately, what matters is the final result. Special thanks to Ryan Stringer of RS Designs, who spent over 20 (or 50? Who knows…) hours working through every small detail, determined to make it look perfect.

And finally, we have taken it onto the circuit. What a pleasure it is to see our beautiful car driven by a triple top-split Super Formula champion Timothy Friis Larsen, who will soon be taking a wheel of a real Scorpio car in Donington Park, sponsored by Scorpio Motorsport and RaceGen Driver Management program, aimed at providing perspective simracers with real-world opportunities. Oh, and by the way, the eSports division is now officially called Scorpio RaceGen.
