Overview

Charles Wimbley is a 21-year-old sim racer from the United States who began his journey in 2017, using esports as a way to sharpen his racecraft and prepare for the day he might step into a real car. His passion for racing started much earlier. At eight years old, after watching Disney’s Cars films and later discovering the 2012 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona on YouTube, he knew exactly what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Inspired by stories like William Byron’s journey to NASCAR, Charles saw sim racing as the pathway to follow in those footsteps.

Over the years, he has built an impressive résumé both in the virtual and real world. In sim racing, Charles has claimed victories in top split races such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the Coca Cola 600 on iRacing, while also finishing inside the top 25 of the eNASCAR College iRacing Series Championship. Away from the simulator, he has been racing rental karts since 2019 and quickly made a name for himself with podium finishes at Autobahn Indoor Speedway and endurance karting events at Pocono Raceway and New Jersey Motorsports Park. He is currently competing in owner karting, where he runs second in the K1 GP League Championship in Concord, North Carolina.

Charles’ ultimate ambition is to reach the NASCAR Cup Series, though he also dreams of proving himself as a versatile driver across multiple disciplines, from stock cars to sports cars and open-wheel machinery. He looks up to Lewis Hamilton for his leadership, resilience, and refusal to ever give up, and he counts 23XI Racing as his favorite team. Away from racing, Charles is a passionate Chicago sports fan, devoted to the Bears, Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks, and Fire, carrying the same energy for his hometown teams that he brings to every lap behind the wheel.
