Bio
Overview
James Whitehead’s connection to motorsport began almost as early as it possibly could. He started sim racing at just four years old, playing Grand Prix Legends on a home computer using a keyboard, while also going karting with his dad around the same time. From the very beginning, James wasn’t only interested in driving, he was fascinated by how and why cars go faster. It didn’t take long before suspension geometry, setup maths, and performance optimisation became second nature.
That early curiosity grew into a lifelong pursuit of both engineering and driving. James has always been drawn to racing in every form, equally passionate about extracting lap time from the car as he is about competing on track. His ambitions reflect that balance: engineering a car to victory at a high level is just as important to him as achieving strong results himself in major endurance events.
One of James’s standout sim racing moments came racing wheel-to-wheel with Louis Delétraz at Daytona, a surreal experience competing directly against a multiple Le Mans podium finisher and a reminder of how closely top-level sim racing mirrors real-world competition.
In real-world motorsport, James brings a rare depth of experience. He has been karting since the age of nine, winning championships along the way, and now runs his own racing business. His engineering résumé spans an extraordinary range of machinery, including LMP2, GT3, BTCC, Super GT GT500, Formula Ford 1600, Time Attack cars, and even historic CART machinery such as the Lola T95/00.
His competitive achievements include winning the BUKC Intermediates Championship, multiple regional titles and lap records, and a standout victory at a UK Time Attack round at Donington achieved with a car producing a quarter of the power of its rivals.
While James’s ultimate goals continue to evolve, the ambition remains clear: whether it’s delivering a result at legendary events like Le Mans or Bathurst, guiding a Time Attack program to a championship, or tackling unique endurance challenges such as the Palanga 1000km in a Smart Roadster, success through engineering excellence is at the heart of everything he does.
James has a particular love for circuits with elevation change: Oulton Park being a real-world favourite and Bathurst a sim racing highlight. Prototypes and historic single-seaters hold a special place in his racing passion. Though he avoids naming favourites lightly, the ARTA GT500 squad earns his support, and Jules Gounon left a lasting impression after witnessing his battle for victory at British GT Oulton Park.
At Scorpio eSports, James Whitehead brings elite-level technical knowledge, race-winning experience, and a lifelong obsession with making cars faster - the foundations of any successful racing operation.
