Overview

Kelly Marcum began his sim racing journey in 2021, just days before the unforgettable Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi where Max Verstappen claimed his first world championship. A lifelong racing fan and Gran Turismo enthusiast since the franchise’s earliest days in the 1990s, sim racing became the perfect competitive outlet as he transitioned away from traditional sports later in life.


Coming from an extensive background in organised athletics, including baseball, American football, and basketball from early childhood through college, Kelly’s competitive drive never faded. Sim racing reignited that spark, offering the intensity, discipline, and constant pursuit of improvement that had defined his sporting life. What started as a casual experiment with a newly acquired wheel quickly turned into a serious passion.


Kelly’s inspiration to dive deeper into esports racing came from one of Formula 1’s most dramatic moments, the Abu Dhabi showdown between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Since then, his focus has been on continuous development, refining racecraft, and challenging himself against faster and more experienced competitors.


Among his notable achievements is a League X-Ship victory in Formula 1, alongside steady progress across multiple leagues and racing series. He credits much of his growth to dedication, seat time, and learning from top-tier sim racers, often reflecting on how much further structured coaching could take him.


A lifelong admirer of Michael Schumacher, Kelly supports Mercedes as his favourite constructor and George Russell. When it comes to cars and circuits, GT3 machinery tops his list, alongside Formula 1 and Super Formula, with iconic venues like the Nürburgring 24h layout and Spa-Francorchamps standing out as favourites. 
 

Outside of racing, Kelly is embarking on a new academic chapter, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Business with a focus on AI pathways.  And while he may claim his life outside racing is quiet, his past tells a different story, having once been a high school valedictorian, homecoming king, and standout quarterback.
